London South Bank University - J2 Block and Engine test bay
Awarded: December 2017
Client: LSBU
Contract value: £145,000.00 (Total)
In December 2017 Southern Ductwork Services were awarded 2 contracts by the projects department at LSBU. The first was to remove and replace 2 no large obsolete AHUs on the roof of J Block. Southern Ductwork Services were to perform the role of Principle Contractor (PC) and oversaw the entire project from start to completion. Including road closures, crane lift, LTHW pipework, commissioning in addition to the ductwork and insulation works.
The work was carried out over the school holidays and the units were in place and running by the time the school term began, on time and on budget.
In December 2017 Southern Ductwork Services were also awarded a further contract to install specialist ventilation services to the LSBU Engine Test Cell in the Borough Road campus. The engine test cell is heavily involved in high speed testing of racing engines, with all of its attendant risks, high temperatures, ethanol racing fuels, fire suppression etc. This involved design, supply and installation of heat resistant extract fan assemblies, acoustic ductwork and insulations, localised plumbing services and controls for cooling of dynometer equipment. This project was extremely challenging due to the various limiting factors, especially that the extract system vented into a residential area, with a very onerous set of acoustic noise limits to be adhered to.
The project was completed on time including several major design changes and additional systems requested by LSBU and is now in service and fully utilised.
