After many years working in the ventilation/construction industry, subcontracting the cleaning side of our business out and encountering disappointment because our standards were not being met, knowing we could do better ourselves, we decided to add cleaning to the services we offer in house, with a view to maintaining our high standards.
Our services now include the following;
- Air ventilation surveys
- Fire damper maintenance and installation
- Pre-commission cleaning
- Kitchen grease extraction cleaning (*)
- Kitchen deep cleaning (*)
- Local exhaust ventilation (LEV) maintenance
- HTM03-01 Compliance surveys
(* we have a specialist to conduct this work who we would oversee)
Ventilation Duct Cleaning
Southern Ductwork Services can help you to ensure compliance with the Associated Code of Practice from the Health and Safety Commission which states that all mechanical ventilation systems should be regularly and properly cleaned, tested and maintained to ensure that they are kept clean and free from anything which may contaminate the air. We can remove all types of contamination and will disinfect where necessary and ensure that all of our works meet HVAC Guide to Good Practice TR19: Cleanliness of Ventilation Systems 2005 and HSG202 – HSE Health & Safety Executive General Ventilation in the Workplace.
Kitchen Extract Duct Cleaning
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires all grease extract systems in commercial kitchens to have a regular cleaning program to minimise the risk of fire to the building and its occupants. Southern Ductwork Services will minimise the fire risk and enhance the cleanliness of kitchens by removing the grease deposits from the extract systems with a regular cleaning program to HVCA TR19 standards. Not only will this ensure compliance with regulation and business insurance requirements, but regular cleaning will also benefit the mechanical efficiency of the system by increasing the air flow and prolonging the life of the extract fan.
Cleanliness & Risk Assessment Surveys
Our portfolio of services includes the provision of surveys, environmental hygiene management programmes and validation of ductwork cleanliness and internal conditions. Comprehensive detailed reports with dust and microbiological testing, indoor air quality testing and video surveys can be provided.
Fire Damper Testing
Fire Damper testing , maintenance and repair service can ensure your system is safe and compliant with The Fire Safety Order (2005) Regulations.
HTM03-01 Compliance Surveys
With the spread of infections recognised as a real danger in hospital ductwork systems , it is vital to ensure compliance with the new practices for the management of healthcare ventilation systems, as introduced by The Department of Health Technical Memorandum 03-01: Specialised ventilation for healthcare premises Part B: Operational management and performance verification.
Extract Ducts
Grease contaminated kitchen extract ducts represent an increased fire hazard to properties. According to statistics provided by the Association of British Insurers, annual insurance losses resulting from fires that are caused by dirty extract ducts have risen in the past two years from £25M to £65M and Insurance companies are now frequently refusing cover unless clients meet standard ductwork cleaning procedures.
The HVCA Guide to Good Practice TR19: Cleanliness of Ventilation Systems 2005 provides the benchmark to maintaining the cleanliness of kitchen extraction systems and suggests the following typical intervals;
HEAVY USE (12-16 hours per day) | 3 monthly |
MODERATE USE (6-12 hours per day) | 6 monthly |
LIGHT USE (2-6 hours per day) | annually |
The actual need for cleaning will be determined by the initial inspection and risk assessments and the frequency of cleaning will be determined by the on-going inspections.
We all have a duty to safeguard life, property and the environment.
